The labor market in St. Louis has shown signs of resilience, with labor force expansion helping offset uneven performance across sectors. The St. Louis metro area's unemployment rate has fallen to a record low of 3.5% in June, especially in the Metro East region, though St. Louis County’s rate is higher, about 4.7% as of July 2025, up from a year ago. Meanwhile, employers continue to report challenges with skills shortages, particularly in high-demand fields like healthcare, transportation/warehousing, and technical roles.
