The Social Networking Challenge: A 100-Day Study

After posting for 100 straight days to the big social networking platforms, falling short of my goals seemed like a massive failure. In realty, I uncovered 3 huge benefits.

As my experiment of posting to social media for a hundred straight days wound down, I was surprised to realize the project was both a bitter failure and tremendous success.

The traditional metrics were disappointing. For example, after posting to Threads for 100 straight days I went from 14 to 18 followers (I know, why Threads?)

But after further analysis, I soon realized the failure to reach my goals was a greater teacher than if I had been successful.

What did I accomplish?

  1. I built a library of content with unique and valuable information. This helped me become an authority in my field and earn a ā€œTop Business Networking Voiceā€ badge from LinkedIn.

  2. I completed a hundred days of on-the-job training and became comfortable on social media. I was able to test what content worked, and just as important, what didnā€™t work. I learned that posting of social media required a strategy - and not just having a plan and goals. Ultimately, I learned what content resonated with my audience and the needs they had.

  3. I consolidated my contacts which help me build a newsletter to 400k+ subscribers. I was able to buildup my platform and not someone elseā€™s.

I might not be the one of the great influencers or have a massive following but I am helping people in my niche. Equally important, I am learning more about social networking than I ever could have taking a course or going through a training program.

THE MOST VALUABLE LESSONS LEARNED

  1. Donā€™t just post daily - interact with your audience

  2. Reach out to other like-minded influencers

  3. Be creative with platformsā€™ tools & features - tag, link, comment, follow, etc.

  4. Pick 1 or 2 platforms and master them - donā€™t spread yourself too thin

  5. De patient - social networking platforms could take weeks, months, or even years to build up and master.

What are your social networking goals for 2025?

Or, more importantly, whatā€™s your strategy?
